*A Veteran Remembered* Anthony Turner and Laura Pedini
We have been contacted by Mrs Pedini Laura from Pontedera (Tuscany) for help in locating a U.S. Army veteran from Texas, Mr. Anthony Turner, who is still remembered there after his stay in 1945. Mr. Turner, then a Corporal, was stationed in Pontedera from August, 1945 to the end of the year, when he embarked in Leghorn on his way back to the States. He had previously been stationed in Francavilla Fontana, a center near the big port of Brindisi in Aupulia. While the locals have no recollection of his unit, based on the dates and locations of his stay in Italy, he might have been a member of a support or administrative unit of some kind, maybe attached to the Peninsular Base Section or Allied Government in Italy. While Mr. Turner came back on a short trip to Italy a few years ago, we were told, Mrs Pedini Laura failed to keep track of his current address in the U.S., and subsequent requests to US Authorities gave no result, since no Army Serial Number was available for locating Mr. Turner. Mr. Turner, who at the time was quartered in a civilian home in Pontedera, together with another G.I., made many friends among the local population, and they would like to have the opportunity to get in touch with him again. Thus, they asked us to post this request for information, hoping that anybody knowing about Mr. Turner’s whereabouts might contact him and pass on this request.
